Here's to a challenging Christmas

No, not really! This Christmas it is going to be different. Every year I have grand ideas in October for giving absolutely everyone a handmade present at Christmas, then, after much musing, start making things in November, have a massive panic in late December and have to (a) rush out to do some stressful last-minute shopping, and (b) burn the midnight oil doing some stressful last-minute knitting and stitching.

Last year I was madly knitting a lace scarf on the train to London on Christmas Eve - yes, quite mad. And I am a slow knitter. And if it involves lace, I usually knit it at least twice over by the time I have frogged and tinked my way through it.

This year it is going to be different - this year I have the Polka Dot Daze Christmas Challengers to hold my hand. (And if you would like to join in, you will find all about it here.)

This year I have set myself realistic targets (at least, they seem realistic at this stage). If you go over here, you will see my list of things to make and do (along with all the ideas from the other Christmas Challengers).

Please go and have a look, and nod wisely, and come back and tell me that yes, these are realistic targets, and yes, this year it will be different. No last-minute stress, no last-minute unpicking, no last-minute blocking of scarves, no last-minute wrapping on Christmas morning . . .

Tell me that it will be different this year. Please?

Your list is brilliant - and your going to get everything done as planned :)
I'll be back next week to see how your going.

In my family we've tried for years to pare Christmas down to its joyful essentials. Those of us adults who exchange gifts draw names (one person each), and agree on a theme and an upper dollar limit (usually around $35, but it's okay to spend less). One year the theme may be handmade gifts (must be made by the giver); another year it's reading material; another year food/drink. One year we gave to a charity of the recipient's choice. It all helps to calm the frenzy and ease some of the pressure of this often less-than-joyful time of year. (Of course the little ones are exempt from drawing names and consequently get heaps of stuff.)

Kudos to you for planning so far ahead and being so organized about it!

Good luck with your list :o) I may be falling into the trap of feeling rather too complacent at the moment, but I'm 1 down, 3 to go, and I'm part way there with each of them... I'll still probably be sewing at midnight on Christmas Eve ;o)

That I am writing this reply on the evening of November 1 really tells me just how far behind I am with Christmas prep.

I truly don't think that I will sign up for more reminding, but definitely hope to be granted some more time off from my workplace this month.

I've got gifts and cards to make and, and, and. Yes, it will all come together by Christmas, just as it always does. xo

I know you can do it (cheerleader pom-poms in hand). You've got enough time and I love the idea of updating on a Tuesday. No sitting back and thinking you've got ages. Last batch of birthdays this weekend and then I can concentrate on Christmas. Yeh!
